Pradosh or Pradosham is the auspicious day and dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi. Pradosh is observed on the 13th day of the lunar fortnight. Pradosh occurs twice in a month. Pradosham literally means the removal of sins. It is believed that in Pradosh Kaal, Lord Shiva perform the dance on Mount Kailash in a pleasant mood. Lord Shiva devotees observe a fast on this day on the pretext of achieving peace, success, and fulfillment of desire.

Pradosh means the dusk of the early night or evening tide. It is observed on the 13th day of each lunar fortnight. It is practiced to propitiate Lord Shiva, in order to obtain his blessings and boons leading to fulfillment of one's cherished desired and spiritual upliftment. Those who practice it with unflinching faith and devotion are bound to possess wealth, health, happiness. A devotee should wear rudraksha, Vibhuti and worship Lord Shiva by abisheka, sandal paste, Bilva leaves, fragrance, deepa and naivaedyaas (food offerings).

It is believed that LORD "PARAMESHWARA" does the ANANDA THANDAVAM (cosmic dance) during this period and to witness this dance all the shiva ganas including the Devi, Ganesha,And Subramanya are ever present on this occasion. While Lord Shiva does Rudra Thandavam and other types also, this particular Ananda Thandavam is very beneficial to remove the "PAKSHA DOSHA" (all the sins committed before 15 days and hence the word pradosha) of all devotees.

The puja is conducted by bathing the shivling by water and offer bilva leaves to it. Offering the bilva leave on the occasion of Pradosh vrat is regarded as highly auspicious. After the prayers are done the Pradosh Vrat Katha or chapter of Shiva Puran are read out loud. Then the devotees recite the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra 108 times.

During the day of Pradosh , it is also believed that Lord Shiva is extremely happy and blesses all these devotees and fulfills their desires.
